Create and Manage Customer Attributes

Creating Customer Attributes and capturing customer data into those attributes is a two-stage process:

  • Create an attribute in which to store data.
  • Create an Attribute Capture Point to capture data into that attribute.

Create a Customer Attribute

  1. In MXO, choose Configure.

  2. Select Customer Attributes and click Create.

  3. Provide the following details for your new attribute:

    FieldDescription
NameEnter a unique name for your attribute.
DescriptionOptional. Provide a description of your new attribute.
Key AttributeIf you want to use this attribute as a key for identifying customers, click Yes.
API NameKey attributes only. Enter a unique API name for your key attribute. The API name is used by your external system to pass key values into MXO. API names cannot contain spaces, special or uppercase characters.
Attribute TypeData attributes only. Select the attribute type. Choose Text, Boolean, or Number.
How MXO should store this valueSelect how the value should be stored in MXO. Choose As provided, All lower case, or All upper case.
  4. Click Save.

Edit a Customer Attribute

  1. In MXO, choose Configure.
  2. Select Customer Attributes.
  3. Highlight the attribute you want to edit and click the Edit icon.
  4. Make your required changes and then click Save.

Points to Note

  • You cannot edit any System attributes provided by MXO.
  • Changing the API name for a key attribute may break integrations using the original API name when that attribute is next published.
  • Changing the way values for an attribute are stored affects only new values. For example, if you originally chose to store values for an attribute "as provided", any existing values for that attribute continue to be stored "as provided".

Delete a Customer Attribute

  1. In MXO, choose Configure.
  2. Select Customer Attributes.
  3. Highlight the attribute you want to delete and click the Delete icon.
  4. Click Yes, delete it.

Points to Note

  • You cannot delete Key attributes or any System attributes provided by MXO.
