Blocking rules

Blocking rules allow you to control collection from IP addresses and ISPs that you don't want to track or contribute to your data credit allowance. These can perhaps be internal IP addresses that you do not want to track or the IP address of known bots.
Note: Blocking rules are added at an account level and can't be added for individual properties.

Adding a blocking rule

  1. On the navigation bar, go to Settings button settings > Account Settings > Blocking Rules and click + Add Blocking Rule.

    Add blocking rule screen

  2. In the Scope dropdown menu, select to block an IP address or an ISP.

  3. In the Rule text box, depending on the Scope selected above, enter one of the following:

    • An individual IP address
    • An IP range
    • An ISP name
  4. (Optional) To protect against collection from bots, DXA automatically blocks data collection from individual IP addresses where an unusually high volume of traffic is detected. To turn this off, in the

    Type dropdown menu, select Whitelist.
  5. (Optional) Enter a Description about the blocking rule.

  6. Click Save Blocking Rule.

The blocking rule is saved and appears at the top of the table in the blocking rule settings screen.
Note: You can add up to 250 blocking rules on an account.

To delete the blocking rule, in the Actions column, click Delete. This will result in sessions from the respective IP address or ISP being collected. However, this does not work retrospectively, so will not result in the collection of previous sessions from that rule.
