Organization and efficiency

• Library tab — A personal storage area for intro screens, logos, and callouts that you can reuse across multiple projects

  By saving your commonly used assets here, you eliminate the need to re-import them into the Media Bin for every new video.

  

  Tip: There are many built-in assets in the Library tab to explore, as well

• Camtasia Project export (.cmproj) — A shared archive file containing all assets and timeline edits together

  This is an essential tool for ensuring that everyone on the team has access to the same branded resources, such as intros and outros. When you save your project, the .cmproj file is created automatically.

• Themes — Saved color palettes and fonts used to maintain consistent brand styling

  Using themes lets you quickly apply the correct hex codes and official brand fonts without looking them up each time.

  

• Markers — Notes attached to specific points on the timeline to track tasks or required edits

  Markers help you stay organized during long editing sessions and can even be used to generate a table of contents for your final video.

  

• Grouping and stitching — Tools used to combine multiple clips into a single media item or rejoin split fragments

  Right click two highlighted clips to group or stitch them. Stitching is particularly useful because it lets you perform animations and effects across a continuous piece of media that would otherwise be interrupted by a split. Grouping is helpful when you have multiple clips that need to stay together to create a complex illustration.

Visual enhancements

• Camtasia Rev — An AI-powered layout and effects generator that provides smart zoom, pan, and cursor smoothing features

  With Rev, Camtasia can automatically zoom into areas where you click and pan to follow your cursor, saving significant time that would otherwise be spent on manual animations. Rev can do much more than this, as well, giving us AI-generated assistance to do things that would normally be done by a very experienced editor. Rev automatically opens after using Camtasia's built-in recording feature.

  

• Smart Focus — An animation tool that automatically zooms and pans based on your on-screen cursor movements

  This is ideal for high-resolution recordings where you need to draw the viewer's attention to small UI elements without manual editing. This feature requires us to use Camtasia's screen recording feature, and will not work with recordings made outside of Camtasia. Smart Focus is also available in the Rev window.

  

• Cursor effects (Rev) — Specialized filters used to highlight, enlarge, or hide the cursor

  Because Camtasia tracks cursor data during recording, you can make the cursor larger or add a highlighted glow after the recording is finished to make your actions easier to follow.

• Remove a Color — A visual effect used to make specific colors transparent

  This "green screen" effect is excellent for creating overlays or removing the background from a graphic to let your screen recording show through.

  

  Tip: The Tolerance setting can help if some of the specified color is not removed because of slight differences in hue.

• Zoom-n-Pan — Manual controls used to focus the viewer's attention on specific UI elements

  You can set keyframes to control exactly when a zoom starts and how fast it moves, providing total creative control over the viewer's perspective. Automatic zoom-n-pan is also available in Rev.

  

  Tip: Set different moments of zoom with key frames (set the cursor to a position on the clip, then adjust the zoom area in the options panel).

Audio and accessibility

• Audiate — An AI-powered tool used to remove background noise, filler words, and pauses

  Audiate lets you edit your audio as if it were a text document. Deleting a word in the transcript automatically deletes that portion of the audio, resulting in a perfectly polished narration.

  Note: This feature seems useful, but it did not work while testing in May 2026.

• Audio effects — Tools used for noise reduction, volume leveling, and fades

  These effects ensure that your voice remains at a consistent volume throughout the video and that background hums are minimized for a professional sound. This can be especially useful for those who record audio in a noisy environment.

• Closed and dynamic captions — Text overlays that you can paste from your script and burn in to the video

  "Closed" captions create an additional caption file that can be toggled on or off by viewers. "Dynamic" captions are burned into the video and will always be visible. Using burned-in captions ensures that accessibility is a permanent part of the video file, regardless of which platform is used to play it.

  

  Tip:

  • Remember to set "burned in captions" in the video options before exporting - otherwise the captions will be missing from the exported video.

  • Use individual blocks in a sequence. This way, you can control individual blocks of text/speech more easily.

Precision editing

• Ripple delete range — A feature used to cut a portion of one or more clips and then sew them together at the split points

  This can help when cutting mistakes or flubs from a long recording, because it keeps the clip together rather than splitting it into two clips that must be edited separately afterward.

  

  Tip: Hold Shift and move the playhead to automatically split all clips at that point and stitch them together.

• Clip Speed — An effect used to speed up or slow down a clip

  This is perfect for condensing long processes, like a slow-moving progress bar, into a few seconds so the viewer doesn't lose interest.

• Custom animations — Keyframe-based adjustments used for complex movements or visual changes

  Beyond just moving objects, you can use custom animations to change the opacity of an element or shift a clip from color to black-and-white.

• Detach canvas — An option used to view your video in full screen on a separate monitor

  This provides a clear, large-scale view of your project, allowing you to catch small visual errors that might be missed on a smaller editing preview.

  

Keyboard shortcuts

The following keyboard shortcuts may not be intuitive to figure out, but they can save a good deal of time once you learn them:

• Zoom canvas — Cmd + mousewheel

• Pan canvas — Shift + mousewheel

Enhance export quality

For the most crisp and clear screen recordings, match the settings (dimensions, frame rate, audio levels, etc.) in three areas:

• Recording dimensions

• Project settings

• Export settings
