Create and manage attributes

Learn how to create an attribute in MXO and how to perform actions on a specific attribute such as editing or deleting it.

Attribute creation and data capture involve a two-step process:

  • Create the attribute for data storage.

  • Establish an attribute capture point to collect data into the attribute.

Create an attribute

  1. In MXO, go to Collect > Attributes.

  2. Click + Create and specify the attribute type: customer attribute or activity attribute.

  3. Enter the attribute details as follows:

    NameProvide a unique name.
    DescriptionOptional. Describe the attribute.
    Data TypeChoose Text, Boolean, Numeric, or Topic.
    Key AttributeFor customer attributes, select if it's a key.
    API NameAssign a unique API name for key attributes.
    Storage MethodDecide on the storage format in MXO.
  4. Click Save to finish the creation process.

Edit a customer attribute

  1. In MXO, go to Collect > Attributes.

  2. Find the desired attribute in the list and click edit icon Edit.

  3. Click Save to finish the editing process.

Important considerations

  • System attributes provided byMXO can not be edited.

  • System attributes and key attributes can not be deleted.

  • You can not change the API name (which only applies to customer attributes marked as keys) after the attribute has been created. If the API name has changed, you will need to create a new key attribute.

  • You can not change the data type selected on an attribute after it has been created.

  • Altering an attribute's storage method only impacts new data entries; existing values retain their original storage format. Changing an attribute's storage method may have downstream impacts depending on how the attribute is used in eligibility rules, priority rules, data structures, and others.

Delete an attribute

  1. In MXO, go to Collect > Attributes.

  2. Find the desired attribute in the list and click delete icon Delete.

  3. Click Delete to complete the deletion process.
    Important: You cannot delete key or system attributes from MXO.
