Access and authentication
Control who can access your Medallia Ideas community.
Understanding who can access your community and verifying their identity is crucial. Access determines who can join, while Authentication confirms their identity.
All users must authenticate who they are to Medallia Ideas. However,
In public communities access is open to all.
For private communities, inviting users to the community provides them with access: it gives them permission to sign in.
For more information on the difference between open (public) and closed (private) communities, see Changing your community access.
Authentication
There are different ways users can verify their identity when they register in Medallia Ideas.
Authentication type | User experience |
---|---|
Medallia Ideas account | Users register a new Medallia Ideas account by providing a username, email address, and password. They get an email to verify their email address. |
Social media sign in | Users connect their social media account (e.g., Facebook) to a new Medallia Ideas account. They then use their social media credentials to verify their identity. |
Organization sign in | Users are taken to an organization sign-in page where they provide their existing work username and password, and are then redirected back to Medallia Ideas. For information, see Using single sign-on. |
Access
For a closed (private) community you need to grant access to the users allowed into your community using one of the following methods:
Access method | How it works |
---|---|
Inviting users with their email address | Invite users to your community by adding their email address to the invited list. They then create an account using that address. For instructions, see Invite people to join your community. |
Allowing email domains | Provide a list of email domains allowed to access the community. Anybody with an email address from the domain, such as medallia.com, can create an account in the community. For instructions, see Allow access for specific email domains. |
