Invitation trigger options

When a survey has an invitation trigger, the following targeting and design options are available:

For more background information on targeting invites, see Intercept targeting.

Targeting tab

Use the options on the Targeting tab to control who receives this survey. Settings are evaluated together, and all conditions must be met for the invitation to be presented to the user.

Behavioral Targeting

Behavioral Targeting for an invitation.

Target by User Behavior Trigger (1)
Trigger the invitation based on a user behavior.
Delay by X seconds (2)
Amount of time to wait between the user behavior trigger being fired and the survey being shown.
Disable Intercept Rule (3)
Configure a rule that prevents the invite trigger in certain situations.

To set up a targeting rule based on user behavior, select the Target by User Behavior Trigger check box. Then select a behavior from the dropdown.

The default behavior is User Abandonment that triggers an invite survey when a user abandons a process, for example attempting to close the window without completing a purchase. This relies on detecting a mouse over event in what is known as the abandonment zone, in addition to any other rule configured, such as having items in a cart, and which is activated after all other Targeting criteria are met.

By default the abandonment zone is a narrow area at the top of the window, which can be optionally configured on the Advanced tab. For information on creating additional behaviors, see user behavior. When the user abandonment trigger is enabled, it only applies to desktop browsers, not mobile browsers. However, you can still trigger the survey for mobile browsers based on all other targeting criteria.

Important: An invite trigger based on user behaviors can only target Desktop users because it depends on the movement of a mouse-cursor.

Set Delay by X Seconds to optionally configure an amount of time to wait before triggering the invite survey. This delay starts after the user behavior has triggered.

Surveys that use an invite trigger can optionally define a rule that disables the intercept. Use this feature when custom parameters used for targeting are updated after Digital form targeting logic has been executed. Or when the customer segment has been updated and you do not want to survey that specific segment, and so on.

To use a rule to disable the invite, check the Disable Intercept Rule box and from the dropdown select a rule to evaluate. Once a disable intercept rule is configured, the targeting logic includes a step immediately after the behavioral trigger fires where the rule is evaluated. If the disable intercept rule passes, the user is not invited to take the survey.

Customers using the Digital Experience Analytics integration see Targeting with Digital Experience Analytics.

Session Based Targeting

Session Based Targeting for an invitation.

Invite % of Visitors (1)
Percentage of visitors to receive an invitation.
Number of visits (2)
Specific number of visits or minimum/maximum number of visits that trigger an invitation.
Time in session greater than (3)
Specific period of time or minimum/maximum amount of time that passes to trigger an invitation. This is calculated from the KampyleUserSession timestamp in localStorage. It is the amount of time spent on the domain from the moment the visitor arrived and the Digital embed code loaded.
Important: When a visitor has multiple browser tabs from the same website open, intercept surveys with this targeting parameter appear in only one browser tab. Each browser tab is assigned a unique ID number, which is then sorted in an array. When the targeted time in session ends, the position of the tab in the array determines on which tab the survey appears. This prevents intercept surveys from opening in each browser tab.
Number of pages viewed in visit (4)
Specific number of pages or minimum/maximum number of pages that a customer views that triggers an invitation.
Time on page greater than (5)
Specific number of seconds that a visitor spends on a page to trigger an invitation.
Don't invite a visitor who declined an invitation in the past x days (6)
If a visitor declined to provide feedback, the number of days that have to pass before the next invite.
Don't invite a visitor who submitted feedback in the past x days (7)
If a visitor provided feedback by completing a survey, the number of days that have to pass before the next invite.

Metadata Based Targeting

Metabased Based Targeting for an invitation.

Target the following devices (1)
Select any combination of Desktop, Mobile, or Tablet devices.
Target by Rule check box (2)
Select the check box then select a rule to apply from the drop down. Rules must contain only custom parameters for the specific survey. Rules are evaluated during page load; if rules are invalid, invitations are not displayed.
Include visitors on the following URLs check box (3)
Enter URL paths to be included for invitation triggering. If empty, all paths are included. Enter each URL on a new line. See URL selection.
Exclude visitors on the following URLs check box (4)
Enter URL pages to exclude from invitation triggering. If left empty, no URL paths are excluded. Enter each URL on a new line. See URL selection.

Invitation Design tab

Invitations are displayed differently on desktop and mobile, so the Invitation Design tab includes options for both Desktop and Mobile/Tablet configurations. Editing on either design tab is only possible if targeting by specific device type is set up with Metadata Based Targeting on the Targeting tab. Click a device type (Desktop or Mobile/Tablet) on the left side of the Invitation Design tab to configure feedback invitations to match specific brand and appearance guidelines or to skip the invitation display and present the feedback survey directly per device type.

Display invite more than once per session (7)
Overrides the default behavior of only triggering an invite once per session. This option is rarely used in production and is generally only required in very specific situations. When enabled, there is no cooldown period so the invite can be triggered repeatedly. This overrides the quarantine rule for displaying the invite per session, but does not impact on other quarantine rules.
