Medallia feed servers and filestash

Medallia Experience Cloud has two general classes of file transfer servers:

  • Feed servers (feed*.medallia.*) — These servers accept files dropped on them. They can hold about 4,000 files, each file can be up to 2GB. These dropped files are immediately processed by the importer. Files are removed from the feed servers after being processed by the feed. They are set up from SFTP Feeds. This class supports FTP and SFTP.

    Files are removed but not deleted when processed. Medallia Experience Cloud moves files from a private (non-shared) storage to one shared with the cluster that has to process it.

    For this reason:

    • You can do automatic or manual retries during the retention period.

    • Medallia makes sure that all the files that can be processed are processed.

  • Filestash (MMFT) — After they are removed from the feed servers, files remain in filestash for some retention period ("lifetime of feed files"). This retention is about being able to access the file from the Imported Files screen for debugging.

    Once the retention period expires, files are deleted at the file system level.

    Filestash is a service hosted within each Medallia data center; clients can use either the S3 or SFTP protocols to drop files on it (filestash only supports SFTP and S3). MMFT accounts are provisioned by request by Medallia Support.

Experience Cloud has distributed servers for performance and regional regulatory requirements. When setting up a server, pick the one appropriate for the company's region. For a complete list of hosts and their addresses, see Medallia Experience Cloud IP addresses and host names.

  • Sandboxes use different host than the production ones noted above. See Sandboxes for details.

Note: Whenever possible choose SFTP over FTP, and use public key authentication instead of passwords. If you must use FTP, only send encrypted files.
