Managing existing rules in the legacy Topic editor
Click on a topic to create rules, view existing rules, and evaluate phrases that have been tagged with your topics. You can also reference collections of synonyms (called word groups) in your rules.
Replacing keywords in multiple rules
- Select a topic.
- Search for and select the rules you want to modify.
- Click the Replace checkbox.
- Add the replacement text to the Replace With field:
- Click the Replace button.
Removing multiple rules
- Select a topic.
- Search for and select the rules you want to remove.
- Click the Remove button:
Creating a rule group
A rule group is a category of rules created for organizational purposes.
- Select the checkbox next to each of the rules you want to group together.
- Click the Group button.
- Give your group a descriptive name
- Click Group to finish grouping your rules.

- Select the rules or rule group that you want to manipulate. An Add elements box will appear, where you can add AND or NOT to all the rules.
- After you type in your changes, add the condition to the selected rules.
The following example adds NOT to the "service quality" rule group.
Editing or deleting a rule group
- Hover over the title of a group. The Edit and Delete icons appear in the upper right corner.
- Click the appropriate icon.
- When you delete a rule group, only the grouping category is deleted — the rules that were inside the rule group remain.
Creating a word group
A word group is a collection of synonyms or similar words that are identified by a #handle. You can use word groups to create one rule that applies to multiple keywords, speeding up your topic building significantly. For more information about word groups, see Word groups for standard topics section in Standard topics.
- Click the Word Groups option, located in the top right, to open the Word Groups window.
- Click Create New Word Group.
- Name the new word group.
- Add synonyms and other words to the group. The standard format for keywords also applies to the words in the word group:

For example, here’s a word group for the word “shuttle”:
bus, shuttle, transport, and transportation.
