Configure Auto Importer to generate customer surveys

This configuration requires that you configure a feed to pass data is into Auto Importer from client systems. An integral piece to making Medallia Experience Cloud's ETL layer (Auto Importer) work is getting data to the processor. Data can be passed to Auto Importer via different methods and formats. For more details see Feeds, and Configure Web Feeds to trigger feedback requests.

This task shows how to configure Auto Importer to trigger customer surveys after a transaction.

Configuring an Auto Importer consists of defining rules for how to process incoming data. These instructions define how data conforms to the Experience Cloud system and what actions it triggers.

Auto Importer allows companies to survey customers shortly after an interaction takes place.

  1. Initialize the Auto Importer specification
Initialize an Auto importer specification to send customer surveys after an interaction.
    • Click Open in Auto Importer UI.

This is a simpler interface for creating Auto Importer processors.

    • Enter a name and description for an Auto Importer specification.

    • Click Choose file and upload a sample data file for initialization.

The sample file should match the structure of the data feed file used in production environments.

Once the file is accepted, the screen presents several options for the type of processor to configure.

  2. Select the Importer processor
The type of processor selected provides additional context for the Auto Importer to process the file.
    • Select Add a survey processor to configure an Auto Importer to generate customer surveys.

The type of processor selected gives context to the Auto Importer and defines how it should analyze the file. The Auto Importer user interface analyzes the sample file: it interprets the file columns as field mappings for the Auto Importer script, and creates a basic survey processor script based on the data in the file.

Required data fields vary depending on the Auto Importer type selected. Survey processor required fields are:

      • Customer details (name, email),

      • Unit details (unit ID)

      • A unique record identifier (transaction ID, store number).

    • Manually match the incorrectly mapped input columns with the desired output fields.

Validate and update the system-predicted settings: map input fields to data fields in the system, transform the input data to the format required for the output fields, and set the right validation options for each setting.

      Mapping, validation, and transformation options.

  3. Select the initialization parameters for the Auto Importer
Initialization parameters appear based on the type of processor selected.
    • For the Processing records by parameter, select Creating only, to generate new surveys with this processor.

    • In the Primary Unit field parameter, select Auto detect.

It indicates which system unit field records should be linked to.

    • In the Sampling operation parameter, select Push to survey engine and generate invites.

This parameter indicates what action to take when processing survey records.

    • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.

  4. Test the Auto Importer configurations
Once Auto Importer configurations are completed, you can test them against new sample files to see how they perform with different data sets.
    • Scroll to the top of the page and click Go back to return to the importer screen.

    • Go to Process a file on pretend, click Choose file and upload a new sample file with a different data set.

    • Go to Data Import, Imported files, Feed Files to confirm that the data was delivered to Medallia Experience Cloud.

  5. Process the data
The data will be brought into the system based on the setup done to the Importer.
    • Go back to Auto Importer, go to the bottom of the page and click Process on active to deliver a survey invitation to the customer.

Medallia Experience Cloud delivers a survey invitation to the customer via email within a few minutes of the triggering transaction.
