Word groups for standard topics
Word groups enable faster and more robust topic building
A word group is a collection of synonyms or similar words that are identified by a handle (#). Use word groups to create one rule that applies to multiple keywords and build topics faster.
For example, suppose you need to build a topic called Staff Attitude. To create the topic without using word groups, you would need to create a list of 10 attitude words, then enter several new rules to describe the staff:
| Individual rules |

| Word group |

Handle: #attitude_en Words Included in group: friendly, rude, professional, kind, unfriendly, arrogant, temper, lazy, mean, nice Rule: bellhop near #attitude_en within 5 words |
Create a word group
-
Open the word group list. To open the word group list, open the Topics screen and click on a topic's name, or select it and click the Edit button at the bottom of the side panel. The Edit Topic screen displays.
-
Use the Preview dropdown above the side panel to select the Word Groups option. The side panel displays existing word groups. Words are listed in alphabetic order. Highlighting in the list indicates a word using exact-match.
-
Click Add a Word Group. The Create Word Group dialog opens.
-
In the Name property, enter a name. This is the name to use when referencing the word group in rules. For example, attitude_en.
Note: The hashtag prefix shown in the word group list is added automatically. - Enter the words to be included in the group. Separate individual words with a comma and a space. Each word in a word group must be unique to that word group. Important: Only individual words can be added to a word group. To add a multi-word phrase to a word group, create a user feature for that phrase first.
- Click
Add or press Enter to add the words in the text box to the word group.
-
Optionally, if enabled for your instance, click
Word match for any word in the group, and then select how to match that word to comments.
For more information, see Word matching for standard topics
- Click Save.
The word group is added to the list of word groups, and can be used in rules. For example:
Note: Be mindful about usingWord match when adding word groups to rules. If you select an exact match for a word group, the rule interprets the pound sign as part of the match. For example, if you create a rule with an exact match for the #attitude_en word group, Text Analytics tags comments for the rule only when they include #attitude_en, without considering the words in that group.
Edit word groups
To edit a word group, use the the word group options menu and select Edit. The Edit Word Group modal displays with the same options described for the Create a word group section above.
Filter word groups
Use the dropdowns above the word group list to filter word groups. There are two dropdowns: one to filter for human- or AI-generated word groups, and one to filter for used and unused word groups. The following image shows both filters with the Type dropdown expanded.
Delete word groups
To delete an individual word group, use the word group options menu and select Delete. For example, the following image shows the word group options menu for the #adapt_en word group.
To delete multiple word groups, use the check box next to each word group to be deleted. A Delete button appears above the list of word groups. When you have selected all the word groups to be deleted, use the
Delete button. For example, the following image shows the word group list with several groups selected for deletion.
View topics that use a word group
Each word group name in the list is followed by a number in parentheses which indicates the number of standard topics referencing that word group.
The number is a hyperlink, and when selected, it displays a list of topics that reference the word group; each listed topic is followed by a link to each language variant that references the word group. Select these links to view each referencing topic.
For example, the following image shows the word group list with topic numbers after each word group name, with the list of topics for #accuracy_en displayed.
