Ranking order
Ranking order defines a group of choice set items that survey takers can compare and arrange in their order of preference. There are two ways for survey takers to answer this question:
- Drag and drop — Arrange the choice set items in order of preference.
- Dropdown — Select a numerical rank for each choice set item.
In this example, survey takers are instructed to rank their preferred method of contact, by dragging and dropping the options in order, being the first one their most preferred method.
In reports, an average ranking is calculated for each choice set item, allowing you to quickly evaluate the most preferred choice set item. For more information, see Ranking Order module.

Choice set options

- Choice set items can be ranked in two different ways, being 1 the highest:

Drag and drop — Survey takers arrange the choice set items in their order of preference.

Dropdown — Survey takers select a numerical rank for each choice set item. Once the survey taker ranks a choice set item from the dropdown in an existing position, the ranking equal and below will move 1 position down. For example, if there are four items ranked — 1, 2, 3, and 4 — and the survey taker places number 4 as 2, then the existing 2 and 3 are moved to be 3 and 4. Ranking must be consecutive, starting from 1. For example, ranking cannot be 1, 2, -, 4.

- Randomize choices
- Deselect this option to exclude choice set items from randomization. By default, Ranking choice set items are randomized to avoid response bias.
- Validate number of selections
- Only for Dropdown ranking type. Select the number of choice set items survey takers must choose when ordering them.
