Configuring Assessments
Assessments allow companies to understand how well each individual employee is performing against company expectations and/or competencies.
Assessments are typically done once or twice a year, depending on the cadence of the company. Some companies complete assessments quarterly. Typically, assessments are used to drive compensation review once a year.
Creating an Assessment
To create an Assessment, select the program to which you want to add the Assessment on the Employee programs page, select the Assessments tab, and complete the following steps.
- Click New Assessment Wave in the top right corner of the page.
-
In the details pane that opens, enter a unique name for the new Wave and, optionally, a description. Select a cycle from the Cycle
dropdown. To create a new cycle, click
Add to the right of the dropdown and complete the additional steps.
Enter a name for the new cycle, then select start and end dates for the cycle. Click Save.
-
Click Continue on the New Assessment Wave pane.

You will also see a Deactivate option for review with Active statuses. When you are done editing the Assessment, click Continue.
To configure details for the Assessment, including schedule, enrollment, assessments, and attachment information, in the Assessment editor, click Manage in the bottom right corner of the details pane. See below for details about those sections.
Schedule
Schedule one or more Waves for the Assessments. Enter a name for the Wave in the Wave Name field. Turn on the relevant phases for the Wave using the toggles. Then enter Start Date, Start Time, End Date, and End Time for each phase.
Phase descriptions are as follows:
-
Self Assessment Phase — When selected, admins can create self assessments. Employees will be shown the self assessments that they need to complete.
-
Manager Assessment Phase — When selected, admins can create manager assessments and will be shown the assessments they need to complete.
-
Performance Rating Phase — When selected, managers can only bulk rate their employees in the assessments.
-
Release Manager Assessment Phase — When selected, managers can release assessments to their direct reports.
-
Auto-Release Manager Assessment Phase — When selected, this phase contains the dates for when manager assessments are auto-released to employees.
- Phases can overlap and employees and managers can perform the actions to which they have access at any given time.
-
Start dates can be in the past but must be within the date bounds of the cycle.
-
Assessments cannot be edited by employees or managers after they are submitted; however, HR admins can edit them on behalf of employees or managers.
In the Assessment Release Settings section, select thecheckboxes to allow employee acknowledgement of manager assessments or to allow manager acknowledgement of employee comments. The Allow manager acknowledgement of employee comment checkbox only appears if the Allow employee acknowledgement of manager assessment checkbox is selected.

Assessments use survey records that are created when you enroll someone via Upload Participants.
