Email domains

Feedback > Surveying > Inviting > Email Domains

Email domains are the ones that appear in emails sent from Medallia Experience Cloud, such as medallia.com or express.medallia.com. The Email Domains screen lists the domains available for the company that appear as options in the "From" email address property of invitations.

Warning: Do not change the medallia.* domains since these are necessary for normal operation.
Restriction: Access to this screen requires administrator permissions with Do anything capability.

Create a custom domain when setting up Email masking. The domains must exactly match the ones defined when setting up the masking.

To add a new custom domain:

  1. Click New.

  2. Enter the name for the Domain, such as feedback1.example.com.

  3. Click Save.

  4. Experience Cloud auto-populates the From and DKIM Domain parameters with the value assigned to the domain name.

  5. Enter a return-path domain, such as return_feedback1.example.com.

This is the domain in the return-path header of emails sent from this domain. Usually this is the same as the domain itself, but can be different if you want to use a different domain for bounces.

Note: By default, this field is auto-populated with the default return-path domain associated with the instance data center and is only editable for custom email domains.

The From domain, the DKIM domain and return-path domain must be logically related.

  6. Optionally, enter the BIMI selector.

BIMI is an email standard for tagging emails with your brand's logo and showing an "authenticated" checkmark to give recipients a sense of integrity for the message.

  7. Experience Cloud auto-populates the DKIM selectors for the domain and runs a DKIM, DMARC, SPF, and MX status check to ensure compliance.

    • DKIM — Provides a digital signature for message integrity.

    • DMARC — Acts as a policy layer on top, combining SPF and DKIM to instruct recipients on how to handle emails that fail authentication and enabling reporting for security.

    • SPF — Verifies if an email was sent by an authorized party.

    • MX records — Define the mail servers responsible for receiving email for a domain but do not authenticate the sender.

Warning: The status checks mentioned above might take up to 1 hour, so the initial status of these checks is NOT_CHECKED. If these check processes return an error or fail, Experience Cloud shows the appropriate error message in the status field and generates an event ticket.
  8. Click Save.

Once you click Save, Experience Cloud shows a box with example DNS values based on the domain: the values are illustrative examples and not necessarily the actual values.

To delete an existing domain, select the domain from the box and click Delete.

Restriction: Before deleting a domain, make sure it is not used for distribution.
