Nested dropdown

A Nested dropdown presents a series of dropdown selectors shown one after another, where the selection in one dropdown narrows the list of options in the next dropdown. Survey takers select the unit they interacted with by first narrowing the list of available units by some other (Unit group) criteria. For example, a survey taker might first select a Country in the first dropdown, which narrows the list of available options in the next dropdown to only to States/Provinces/Regions in the selected country. Finally, the next dropdown might list only the Stores in the selected state.

Consider using Nested dropdowns when:

  • To narrow the list of choice set items (units) when the list is very large.
  • As a way of limiting the options available in a single dropdown based on some group criteria, such as when a company has different kinds of units like people and properties.
  • As a way of transforming the names of the options that appear in a dropdown.

To select a Nested dropdown, click Search library and choose from the available Nested dropdowns.

Restriction: You cannot create new Nested dropdowns in Surveys. However, you can add existing nested dropdowns to new surveys. If you need a new nested dropdown, contact your Medallia expert.

Nested dropdown advanced settings

You can configure these properties on the Advanced tab:

Show relevant units based on the survey taker's location
When checked, enables geolocation for the survey taker. The browser prompts the survey taker for permission and, if granted, only units appropriate for the survey taker's location are shown. This option is especially useful for mobile surveys taken at or near the unit location, such as a kiosk in a store or hotel. You can also set the:
  • Maximum number of units displayed — Maximum count of units shown to the survey taker. You can show up to 10 units.

  • Search radius — Number of kilometers or miles to consider when searching for units.

  • Sort order of results — Choose to order results by distance or name.

See Geolocation for surveys for more information on how to filter the dropdown list to show only units physically near the survey taker.
