Distribution and audience

Distribution and audience defines both the survey(s) Ask Now is tied to and the survey takers it should reach. Essentially, Ask Now is a set of questions bundled in a unique Ask Now page that can be attached to any existing survey. Additionally, you can define the individuals who see and answer the Ask Now questions by defining the Unit groups and/or Units they interacted with, and by setting specific conditions as Audience attributes.

Distribution and audience step with 3 Parent surveys selected and 1 Unit groups as Target audience

Add Ask Now to surveys

To select all the surveys the Ask Now is part of:

  1. Navigate to Parent survey section.

  2. Click Add surveys.

  3. Choose the survey(s) to associate Ask Now to. Use the filter on the right to select survey(s) that belong to an Experience program.

Restriction: Parent surveys are limited to those visible to the user's role as defined by the role's administrative permissions.

Clicking 'Add surveys' opens a dialog where you select one or more surveys the Ask Now question are added to.

Warning: When the parent survey is an anonymous survey distributed via live link, the unit must be set with a parameter in the link URL. If a unit is not set, Ask Now will not display.

Target audience

The target audience are the individuals who can potentially respond to the Ask Now questions that are part of an Ask Now page. Choose the audience to be:

  • All survey takers from the parent surveys — Individuals taking surveys tied to the units the Ask Now creator's primary role has data access to.

  • Selected survey takers from the parent surveys — Targeted, specific individuals that interacted with either the selected Unit groups and/or Units, and those who meet the conditions defined on the Audience attributes section.

Note: When using a selected survey takers target audience, you must select at least one Unit or Unit Group. Without this selection the custom-targeted Ask Now questions will not be seen by anyone, even if an audience attribute is defined.
Audience attributes narrow down the Unit groups and/or Units to those who meet the defined condition. For example, if:
    • There are two Unit groups that include all stores located in Region = Asia and EMEA, and

    • There is one Unit that represents a store located in New York City, and

    • The Audience attribute has a condition Product Type = Computer, then

Ask Now is displayed only to those individuals who made a purchase in any Asia and EMEA store and/or those who did it in the New York store as long as the purchased Product is a Computer.

Target audience includes two Unit groups (ASIA and EMEA, each with 3 units) and a Unit (New York Store), as well as the Audience attribute condition Product type equal to Computer.

To select the Unit groups, Units, and/or Audience attributes:

    1. On Unit groups, click Add Unit groups to select the Unit groups from the existing Categories. Alternatively, enter the Unit groups ID(s) directly in the text box.

    2. On Units, Add units to select the units. Select from the filters on the right the Categories to choose the units from. Alternatively, enter the Unit ID(s) directly.

Restriction: Unit groups and Units are limited to those available in your user's Data access permissions.
    3. On Audience attributes section, select Add conditions to build a rule. For more information, see Rule builder.

Restriction: Feedback fields are limited to those that are part of the parent survey(s) of an Experience program. If the survey does not belong to an Experience program, then all fields from the instance are available.
