Rival List Import Uploads

Feedback > Social Media > Rival List Import > Uploads

You can import a file that contains the rival lists for all the properties associated with a hospitality company. For more information, see STR Rival lists.

Properties

Process a file on pretend
Processes the file without making permanent changes to the database. Use this property to test the file to import.
Mode
Whether to update or replace data from the previous import:
Replace
Replaces the data from any previous imported files. It deletes any rival entries that were imported previously but do not appear in the latest imported file. Use this option for large changes. For example, when importing a spreadsheet with an entire month's worth of updates.
Update
Imports the file and replaces the contents of all matched competitor lists. The competitor lists that are not mentioned in the file do not change. Use this option for small updates.
Note: In some cases, rival locations may be deleted from a previously imported rival list when you use the Update option. For example, when importing a file that lists Oasis Resort Malibu as a rival of Serenity Hotel Malibu. If you import a new file that lists three other hotels as rivals of Serenity Hotel Malibu, but does not include Oasis Resort Malibu as a rival, then Oasis Resort Malibu is deleted from Serenity Hotel Malibu's rival list during the import.

File
Spreadsheet from the company that references properties by STR ID. The spreadsheet must be in either .XLS or .XLSX format and include these values in the first and second columns:
  • Column 1 — The STR ID of the company unit.
  • Column 2 — The STR ID of the rival property.

There should be one row for each rival hotel in the spreadsheet. There can be more than two columns, but Medallia Social Feedback only import the data in the first and second columns.

In this example, 6 rivals are in STR 100127's rival list, 4 rivals are in STR ID 100169's rival list, and 4 rivals are in STR ID 100243's rival list.

Report

An error report (called the Competitor List Import) that is generated when Medallia Experience Cloud imports a file. This report includes a list of the rival locations that are added, discarded, and updated for a selected import. To view the report, go to the Rival List Import screen and click the Uploads tab. From there, select an import from the side panel, and download (or open) the file in the Report field:

You can either download the report or open it in a browser.

Each report includes these details:

  • A summary of the units that were processed during the import:

In this example, 69 rival list were created for 69 properties. A total of 350 rival properties were created.

  • A detailed breakdown of any discarded properties, which may include one of more of these error messages. The description for each message explains how you should respond:

number of your properties were discarded due to its corresponding STR census information was not found.
This is likely due to this property having been newly added to the STR census information. Contact Medallia Support with a copy of this report to get an estimated date for when these IDs get to be available.
number of your properties were discarded due to its corresponding STR census information did not match any social property.
This is likely due to these properties having slightly different information in the external census compared to our records.

Contact Medallia Support with a copy of this report to request a manual fix.

number of your properties were discarded due to its STR census information was not matched to any Unit in Express.
This reflects that certain properties are not properly tied to Experience Cloud units.

Contact Medallia Support with a copy of this report to request a manual fix.

number of your properties were discarded due to its STR census information was matched to a Unit in Express that could not be found.
This reflects a lack of synchronization between Experience Cloud and Social Media organizational hierarchies.

Contact Medallia Support with a copy of this report to request a manual fix.

Tip: This section of the report does not list the STR IDs of any rivals that were discarded. To check whether all the rivals in a rival list were added, match the STR IDs from the imported spreadsheet against the list of New competitor IDs in the report, which are listed in the Detailed breakdown processed properties section.
  • A detailed breakdown of processed properties in this format:
    Competitor list
Unique ID of the rival list.
    External ID
STR ID of the company unit.
    Canonical ID
ID of the Unit in the Social Media server.
    Unit ID
    ID of the Unit.
    Previous competitor IDs
STR IDs of the rivals that were in the previous rival list (before the latest file was imported).
    New competitor IDs
STR IDs of rivals in the current rival list.

This example has these values: "Competitor list: 71", "External id: 110788", "Canonical property id: 83358", "Unit id: 82607", "New competitor ids: 28247,40784,89778,95269,103698,5408297"
