Applying Segments to Heatmaps

There are a variety of ways to filter heatmaps. By clicking the Segments tab, you will be shown the following:Segment dropdown in Analyze Heatmaps

You can select a segment from the Segment (You can select one Segment or more) box.
Note: You cannot select custom segments in DXA for Mobile.

Device type is set to Desktop by default, so will show the heatmap at the full width of a desktop screen. This can be changed to Tablet or Mobile and these options will resize the heatmap accordingly along with the layout of the website if it changes on mobile or tablet. This will also change the number of clicks that will appear in the heatmap, as desktop, mobile or tablet heatmaps will only show clicks that have taken place on the selected devices. Once you have selected the appropriate filtering, simply click Apply changes to generate the new heatmap. It is also possible to generate aggregate heatmaps to combine data from more than one page into a single heatmap.

Aggregate heatmaps

In some cases, it is desirable to analyze on-page activity aggregated across a number of pages, rather than on an individual page-by-page level. An example of this could be to analyze the performance of a product page template used across multiple products on a website. With aggregate heatmaps, a page group containing the required product pages can be created, after which all relevant heatmap data will be rendered onto a single product page template.

To generate an aggregate heatmap, you will need to define page groups.

To view Aggregate Heatmaps, click the Segment dropdown menu and select Aggregate, then select the Page group created in the previous step.Creating an aggregate heatmap

Data from all of the listed pages will be aggregated and displayed as a heatmap. You can also apply a segment to the list of pages by using the Segment box.
