Topic Investigator report with sentiment

Reporting > Text Processing > Topic Investigator

Important: This report is superseded by the following report modules, which are part of Medallia Alchemy Experience Reporting in Medallia Experience Cloud, and which include functionality not available in the legacy Topic Investigator report:

If you need data displayed in ways not available in the modules listed above, create a Custom Module.

The Topic Investigator report for systems with sentiment is added automatically when you enable sentiment for the first time.

Topic Investigator Header

The header includes the name of the topic, the overall score for the topic, and the percentage of positive and negative sentiment associated with the topic

The header highlights important information about the topic, including:

  • Topic Name (Bathroom Experience in this example) and its average score.
Note: NPS may appear instead of the average score.
  • Percentage of records that mention the selected topic in a positive way, out of all the records that mention the selected topics (21.4% in this example). 2156 Guests represents the number of records that contain one or more sentences that mention the selected topic in a positive way.
  • Average score for the subset of records that mention the selected topic in a negative way.

The default score used by the Topic Investigator header is same as the MainScoreField on the Company > Profile > Company Settings screen. If needed, you can change the default score used by the header by opening the Reporting > Text Processing > Topic Investigator screen and changing the Header score field:

In this example, the Header score field is called Main Score

Sentiment Distribution Chart

This report is a bar graph

The actual volume of comments that are used to calculate percentage distributions might vary, depending on how sentiment is configured (such as whether multiple positive mentions of a topic from the same comment are counted multiple times versus only once for positive sentiment).

Tip: View the XML for this report by navigating to the Reporting > Reports Advanced Analytics screen and searching for the AnalyticsReport_mycustomer_ti2_sentiment_distribution_chart report.

Comments

Users with permission can click the Edit icon to edit the sentiment of a comment.

This report displays up to 100 of the most recent comments for the selected topic. Comments can be filtered by sentiment by selecting one of the sentiment facial expression buttons.

You can give users permission to edit the sentiment of individual sentences (as highlighted in the image above). For more information about editing sentiment, see Sentiment overrides (opt-in feature).

Important: If your company has Medallia Alchemy Experience Reporting enabled, sentiment override does not work in the legacy Topic Investigator report. For more information about the reports and modules included in Alchemy Experience Reporting, see Reporting.
