Promote for TripAdvisor

TripAdvisor is the leading travel review hosting website, so it is important that hospitality companies (like hotels, restaurants, casinos) have a strong presence on TripAdvisor and insight into the feedback customers provide through that channel. Medallia Social Promote can help increase the number of TripAdvisor reviews for individual hospitality locations by soliciting survey takers for TripAdvisor reviews.

For information on configuring Promote for TripAdvisor, see Configure Promote for TripAdvisor .

For hospitality companies with locations listed on TripAdvisor, Promote can send reviews to TripAdvisor within 24 hours after the survey is submitted. TripAdvisor moderates and posts the reviews to the TripAdvisor page associated with the location.
Note: See Guidelines for Traveler reviews that outlines TripAdvisor review rules.
See TripAdvisor page for instructions on how to add and configure a TripAdvisor page into a survey.

TripAdvisor Promote Widget

The TripAdvisor widget works on both desktop and mobile devices. Survey takers fill the form directly on TripAdvisor, but without leaving the survey. TripAdvisor validates and notifies them directly in case of any issues with the review so they can make adjustments.

Survey takers with an existing TripAdvisor account can login and submit their review using that account. New TripAdvisor members have a TA-lite account created for them that's linked to the email they shared; they can customize the username or use an auto-suggested one. These users will only be sent emails from TripAdvisor that relate directly to the review (for example, review posted, any issues with the review, etc).

TripAdvisor form can be of two types, depending on the listings category:
  • Listings categorized as hotels show a 200-character review form and sub-metrics.

  • Listings categorized as attraction show a 100-character review form and no sub-metrics. This form type can also be configured for their restaurants, as long as they are listed on TripAdvisor.

Identifying TripAdvisor reviews generated by Medallia

During review collection for companies with Social Feedback, Medallia Social Promote flags any TripAdvisor reviews that were promoted to TripAdvisor. A promoted review is a review that has been submitted in response to a solicitation from within a Medallia survey. Medallia Social Promote flags these Promote-generated TripAdvisor reviews by setting a Question field called q_socialmedia_is_promoted. You can use this Q-field to create reports about a variety of topics, including:

  • The impact of Promote-generated reviews on the company's TripAdvisor score and review volume.

  • A comparison of the key metrics (e.g. score and volume) from promoted TripAdvisor reviews and organic (non-Promote) TripAdvisor reviews.

The q_socialmedia_is_promoted field has three possible values:
Yes
The review was promoted to TripAdvisor from a Medallia survey.
No
The review was not promoted to TripAdvisor from a Medallia survey.
Null
The review is not from TripAdvisor but from another social media site.
