Profiler reports

Important: This report is superseded by the Segment Distribution Over Time dashboard module, which is part of Medallia Alchemy Experience Reporting. Medallia recommends that you migrate any existing Profiler standard reports to the new module, and then remove access to the legacy report. For more information, see Removing access to legacy Profiler reports, below.

Profiler reports allow you to analyze customer demographic and segmentation information.

Profiler Table report

The Profiler Table report displays customer segment counts and percentages in a tabular format. The default view shows segments over time, but you can change the columns of the table using the Columns dropdown.

Profiler Graph report

The Profiler Graph report displays a column-stacked chart of customer segment counts and percentages. Use the Columns dropdown to change the horizontal axis, and the Attribute dropdown to change the vertical axis. Hover over any bar segment to see details about what that segment represents.

Profiler Benchmarks report

The Profiler Benchmarks report includes a Main report table, and allows users to create up to 5 additional custom filter Benchmark report tables. All Benchmarks are compared against the Main table. In each Benchmark, the left column shows the filtered value for that table, and the right column shows the difference between the Main table and the Benchmark.

To create a Benchmark report table, click the + icon under the Control Panel, select filters you want to use for this Benchmark, and then click Run.

Configuring Profiler reports

You can configure what fields are available to filter in Profiler reports by configuring profiler/segment groups on the Reporting >Report Helpers > Profiler or Segment Groups screen. See Profiler or segment groups for details about each option available when creating profiler/segment groups.

  1. Determine whether you want to use any existing profiler/segment groups in the Columns dropdown in Profiler reports:
    1. Open the Reporting > Report Helpers > Profiler or Segment Groups screen.
    2. Browse the existing profiler/segment groups.
    3. For any that should be used in the Columns dropdown when filtering Profiler reports, turn on its Profiler property and then click Save.
  2. To create new profiler/segment groups complete the following substeps:
    1. Click New Segment Grouping.
    2. Enter a Name, which appears in the Columns dropdown in Profiler reports.
    3. Enter a Priority.
    4. Turn on the Columns Dropdown property.

This configures the field selected in this profiler/segment group to appear in the Columns dropdown.

    5. Turn on the Profiler property.

This configures Profiler reports to display values for the field selected in this profiler/segment group.

    6. By default, Profiler reports display percentages of each value. If you want the option of selecting Count from the Calculation dropdown, turn on the ProfilerCount property.
    7. Click Save. Profiler/Segment Groups configuration screen
    8. In the MemberRoles property, choose the roles that can use this profiler/segment group.
    9. On the Add/Remove tab of the Selected Fields table, select the field you want used for this profile/segment group, click Add, and then click Save.

By default, when a user selects this profiler/segment group from the Columns dropdown, all unique values appear in a new column. If you want to group those values into columns, create child segments, as in the next steps.

    10. With the parent profiler/segment group selected, click New Segment.
    11. Enter a descriptive Name, which will be displayed in the Profiler as a column header.

For example, for an Order Type field, you might want to group values from all online orders into a column named Online.

    12. Enter a Priority, and then click Save.
    13. In the MemberAlternatives property, choose the values whose totals are grouped in the column.

For example, the following image shows a profiler/segment group that includes 3 segments (Warehouse, Online, and Refund).

Profiler reports display these segments as columns when a user selects Order Type in the Columns dropdown.

  3. Configure which fields are searchable in reports.

By default, Experience Cloud includes a Searchable Fields (completed surveys) report module defined for all users, with a child report item that makes the Survey ID, Email, and Phone fields searchable in reports. Searchable fields are set globally for all reports in your instance, so if you want to add or remove fields from search, modify the provided report module:

    1. Open the Reporting > Reports > Standard Report Modules screen.
    2. Click the child report item under the Searchable Fields (completed surveys) report module.
    3. On the Add/Remove tab of the Selected Fields table, select the fields you want searchable and then click Add.
    4. Click Save.
    5. In the MemberRoles property, select all roles by moving them to the right-side box. Searchable Fields module
  4. If you modified which fields are searchable, reindex your set of searchable field data:
    1. Open the Reporting > Report Helpers > Lucene screen.
    2. Turn on the Enable TALL_SET for lucene (invitations indexing) property, and then click Save.
    3. Turn on the Confirm property, and then click ReloadFullTextIndex.

For more information about using the Lucene report helper, see Lucene.

  5. Assign Profiler report capabilities to user roles:
    1. Open the Company > Users > Roles > Roles screen.
    2. Select a role you want to use Profiler reports.
    3. In the MemberCaps property, choose the following capabilities:

      • View Profiler
      • View Profiler Table
      • View Profiler Graph
      • View Profiler MultiCompare
  6. Create a standard report instance for each Profiler report you want to create:
    1. Open the Reporting > Reports > Standard Reports screen.
    2. Click New.
    3. For the ReportType property, select one of the Profiler report types.
    4. In the MemberRoles property, choose the roles that can use this report by moving them to the right-side box.

Note that any user role can be assigned only to one standard report of each type.

    5. Click Save.
  7. Assign the standard reports to subtabs in report navigation, as described in Navigation.

Removing access to legacy Profiler reports

As you migrate away from legacy Profiler reports to the Segment Distribution Over Time dashboard module in Medallia Alchemy Experience Reporting, consider removing access to the legacy report.

    1. Open the Reporting > Reports > Standard Reports screen.
    2. In the list of reports, select a Profiler report.
    3. Remove all roles from the MemberRoles property, and then save and publish your changes.
  2. Remove role-based permission to legacy Profiler reports:
