Step 14 - Add the MXO Tag to your website

Adding the MXO Tag enables your website to work with MXO. Before you can release your changes to a site, add the MXO Tag to the header of each page on your website that you want to optimize.

You can preview and test your optimizations without adding the MXO Tag. The MXO Tag is only necessary if you are going to release your optimizations to the site, making them "live".

You can add the MXO Tag to each page of your website manually or you can use a shared theme or template within your existing content management or site management system, avoiding the custom tagging associated with many web analytics implementations.

Important: The MXO Tag is specific to a single Space. Do not copy and paste or reuse the MXO Tag between Spaces.

To add the MXO Tag

  1. In MXO, choose Welcome.
  2. On the Welcome page, click Add the MXO Tag to your website.
  3. Copy and paste the MXO Tag html from the MXO Tag page into the header on the first page of your website, just before the closing header tag.

You can see an example of what the MXO Tag should look like when added to a page on your website correctly, by clicking See an Example on the MXO Tag page.GSG - MXO Tag code
  4. Repeat Step 3 for each page of your website that you want to optimize.

Alternatively, add the script to the website's shared theme or template so it can be accessed by each of the website's pages.

If you add new pages to your website, be sure to add the MXO Tag to those new pages.
Note: You won't need to add the MXO Tag to any new pages on your website if you add the MXO Tag to your website's shared theme or template.
