Moderate Custom Templates

Restriction: This feature or information is available to Medallia employees only and it is not to be shared outside the company.

When a user uploads a custom HTML/CSS template on the Surveys page, it must be approved by a super admin on the Moderate Custom Templates page before it can be applied to a survey. This page displays all custom templates in the entire Feedback instance alongside each template's status and associated Organization and user. You can view templates, approve/deny them, or delete them from here, as well.

How to Review, Approve, or Deny Templates

If you see a template with an orange "Awaiting Moderation" status box, click the Edit icon in that row to view the template. In the example below, we can see that approval_test3 is awaiting moderation and has a comment attached from the user.

When the template opens, first click the kebab menu to check for any user comments. Comments may explain unexpected changes you see in the template, or they may contain questions on which to follow up. In the same window, you can see additional information about the template, such as it's version and publication schedule.

Next, review the template:

  • You must open each CSS and HTML file in the template before the Approve button can be clicked.
  • Check each file in the code view, looking for <script> tags or formatting issues.
  • Check the preview to the right of the code view for each file. Look for anything out of place that may not have been intended by the user.

The example below shows an HTML file containing text which may not have been intentional:example of moderating a templateIf everything looks good, click Approve to approve the template. Otherwise, click Deny. After denying a template, you will have an opportunity to leave a message for the user, who can then make any required changes and resubmit the template.

How to Bypass Moderation

For advanced clients or users who are trusted to submit custom templates, you can bypass the moderation requirement via the following steps.

  1. Click the Whitelist button on the Moderate Custom Templates page.
    • You will be taken to the Custom Templates Whitelist page, which displays all users and Organizations that are approved to bypass moderation.
  2. Click Add User for an individual or Add Customer for an Organization.
    • You will be taken to the Manage Users or Manage Customers page.
  3. Update the user or Organization's settings to toggle the Auto Approve Custom Templates switch On.

The user or Organization should now be shown on the Custom Templates Whitelist page, as seen below.screenshot of the custom templates whitelist page
