Grid

Grid groups separate questions into a tabular arrangement, where each question is a row, and the choice set items are columns. All questions in the Grid share the same choice set.

Grid presents possible options on a progressive scale, and allow survey takers to select one answer on that scale. For example, you might ask survey takers to rate their visit on a scale that includes labels for Not at all satisfied and Extremely satisfied.

The underlying numeric values associated with those labels determine how many selectable options are available. For example, Excellent might be associated with numeric values of 10 and 9, Good with 8,7, and 6, Poor with 5, 4, and 3, and Very Poor with 2 and 1. In that example, the Grid would have 10 selectable options, with the labels appearing above the scale in appropriate place.

Grid to present a series of questions that use the same choice set.

For more information about configuration details, see Questions and Choice sets.

In reports, you can show the distribution of responses to each choice set item, displaying the percentage of responses for each option. For more information, see Segment Distribution Snapshot.

Questions (Rows)

Grid questions are always displayed as rows. To add a new question, click the bottom row under Questions and type in your question content. Click More vertical icon the question menu to reveal the options for each row.

Question (row) actions and options

Restriction: Grid questions cannot contain Event fields with Fractional data type as variables.

Question (row) menu

These properties apply to each question individually:
Make this question required
Forces the survey taker to answer the question before moving to the next question in the survey.
Add display logic
Allows for choosing when to display the question. See Content logic for more information.
Override question text
Only when editing a question. It changes the question content. See Overriding question text for more information.
Remove question
Removes the row.

Question (row) options

This property customizes all the questions (rows):
Randomize questions (rows)
Questions appear in random order when survey takers are responding the survey. This is helpful to remove order bias when survey takers choose from a list of things they liked or disliked. To exclude a question from that randomization, Pin icon pin the question.
Flip questions
Shows the questions in reverse order. This applies to half of the survey takers approximately,

Choice set (Columns)

Consider an 11-point scale from zero to ten as a best practice for choices (columns). Eleven-point scales provide more granular data with more differentiation than scales with fewer options. For instance, it is possible to tease apart those experiences that elicit a 10 from those that elicit a 9 to highlight top performers.

Visualization type

Choice set (columns) can be displayed in five ways:

Numeric
The scale shows a range of numbers the survey taker must choose from.
Star
The scale shows stars instead of numbers for the survey taker to choose from. It is available for Range options starting on 1.
Radio button
The scale shows radio buttons the survey taker must choose from, but no numbers.
Custom list
Scale to show a non-numeric choice set. For example, when grading an experience using 'Excellent', 'Very good', 'Good', 'Poor', 'Bad'. Custom list can allow:
  • Choose one — Allows the survey taker to select one column for each row.

  • Choose many — Allows the survey taker to select multiple columns for each row.
Tip: When selecting Custom list - Choose many, the Feedback field is a multi-value field. See Advanced settings for more details.
Note: Custom list - Yes/No is only visible and editable if it was previously used in the survey.

Range

It displays numeric and sequence numbers incremented by 1, using a 0 to 10 range by default. Choose from these available ranges:
0-10
Range goes from 0 to 10.
1-3
Range goes from 1 to 3.
1-5
Range goes from 1 to 5.
1-7
Range goes from 1 to 7.
1-10
Range goes from 1 to 10.
Custom
This lets you define your own range, starting from 0 or 1 up to 15.
Add N/A as a choice

Places a Not Applicable option at the end of the scale.

Restriction: Range does not allow for negative numbers and you cannot change its if the Choice set is being reused in other question element.

Labels

Labels are optional anchors added to the grid, making its meaning less ambiguous by placing these on the end points of the range. Available labels include:
  • Not at all likely - Extremely likely.

  • Not at all satisfied - Extremely satisfied.

  • Do not agree at all - Completely agree.

  • Custom — This lets you define your own labels and the position you would like to place them. For example, when grading a experience using 'Excellent', 'Very good', 'Good', 'Poor', 'Bad'. Be aware of the phrasing on the anchors, as it affects responses.

Restriction: Labels are only available for Numeric, Radio button, and Star visualization types. Formatting, such as centering or adding the break lines, using HTML tags is not supported.

Choice set (columns) options
Reverse
Reverses the displayed order of the choice set columns and their labels. Thus only works when the choice set items have numeric values.
Add value to choices
Only for Custom list visualization type. Choice set items show a numeric value next to the option text. Values represent the choice set options in Experience Cloud and can be used to perform calculations.
