Profiler or segment groups

The Profiler/Segment Groups screen determines what fields are displayed in Profiler reports, as well as many filter dropdown fields in Profiler and other reports. For more information about Profiler reports, see  Profiler reports.

When you create a segment group you determine which field that segment group displays in Medallia Experience Cloud. If you want Experience Cloud to display groups of values for that field, within the segment group you can create segments for each group of values. For example, you might want to view Likelihood to Recommend as a category in Profiler reports, with data organized by Promoters, Passives, and Detractors. Do do this, you would start by creating a segment group for the Likelihood to Recommend field. You would then create 3 segments within that segment group: one for Promoters (Likelihood to Recommend values 9 and 10), one for Passives (values 7 and 8), and one for Detractors (values 0 through 6). The following image shows how the Profiler Table report appears with that segment group and its child segments:

Creating a profiler/segment group

Warning: If a segment group you created is not appearing where you expect (such as in the Columns dropdown), add it to a Profiler report. If you do not want the field in that report, you can remove it after you've added it and saved. Due to a system bug, segment groups do not appear elsewhere in the system until you add them in a Profiler report.
  1. Click New Segment Grouping.
  2. Enter a Name, which is used where this segment group is displayed in Experience Cloud.
  3. Enter a Priority.
  4. Select properties to configure where and how this segment group is displayed. For more information, see Properties on the Profiler/Segment Group screen, below.
  5. On the Add/Remove tab of the Selected Fields table, select the field you want used for this profile/segment group, click Add, and then click Save.
  6. In the MemberRoles property, choose the roles that can use this segment group.
  7. If you want to group values for this field into columns, create child segments as described in the following substeps:
    1. With the parent segment group selected, click New Segment.
    2. Enter a descriptive Name.
    3. Enter a Priority, which determines the display order of this segment relative to other segments in this segment group.
    4. Click Save.
    5. In the MemberAlternatives property, choose the values whose totals are grouped in the column. For example, the following image shows a segment that groups values 9 and 10 for the Likelihood to Recommend field. A segment that groups values 9 and 10 for the Likelihood to Recommend field
Note: When fields of the same type (Q-fields, E-fields, and so on) have the same Priority value, field names appear together and alternative values appear together in the MemberAlternatives property. This can make it difficult for you to differentiate between similar alternative values when defining segments. To work around this display limitation, adjust the Priority values of the relevant fields.

Properties on the Profiler/Segment Group screen

The properties you select on the Profiler/Segment Group screen determine where and how segment groups appear in Experience Cloud.

Name

The name you want to display in reports. This is independent of the associated field's name in Experience Cloud. For example, you might want to display the Stay Primary Purpose field as Purpose of Stay.

Priority

For segment groups, the Priority number determines the order fields appear in reporting. Fields with smaller numbers appear before fields with larger numbers. For child segments within a parent segment group, the Priority determines the display order of the segments within their parent segment group.

Description

Columns Dropdown

If turned on, the segment group is available to select in the Columns dropdown in the Control Panel.

Calculation Dropdown
Note: Do not use this property, which has been deprecated. Instead, use the Reporting > Report Helpers > Calculations screen.
Profiler

If checked, the segment group's field and values are displayed in Profiler reports.

CrossTab
Note: Do not use this property, which has been deprecated.
WhoIsTalkingAbout
Warning: This property applies only to older Experience Cloud instances that do not use multi-select dynamic filtering. For more information, see Filters and controls.

If checked, Experience Cloud displays the segment group in the Who is Talking About section in Text Analytics reports. Use this functionality wisely, and enable only the segment groups that are the most important for the program. If you have many fields enabled the performance of Text Analytics screens will be poor. For step details about setting up Text Analytics, see Implement Text Analytics.

GroupTitle
Note: Do not use this property, which has been deprecated.
Hide Optional Alts
For alternates that have their Visibility set to SURVEY_AND_REPORTING_OPTIONAL, turn on this property to hide the alternative. For more information about alternatives, see Alternative sets.
Show Individual Alts

If turned on, Profiler reports display each individual alternative as a separate row, instead of displaying each Alternative Group as a row. If you also turn on the Columns Dropdown property, when a user selects the segment group in the Columns dropdown Experience Cloud displays each Alternative in a separate column.

HideUnanswered

If turned on, Experience Cloud hides the segment group's section in Profiler reports if all rows are unanswered.

HideUnansweredAlts

If turned on, Experience Cloud hides unanswered individual alternatives from the segment group's section in Profiler reports (for both rows and columns). This also hides empty alternatives from the report when the segment group is selected in the Columns dropdown.

Hide100PercentLine

By default, Experience Cloud displays a total percentage line (which always totals 100%) for each segment group's section in Profiler Table reports. If you turn on Hide100PercentLine, Experience Cloud hides that line.

ProfilerCount

By default, Experience Cloud does not display the Calculation dropdown in the Control Panel for Profiler reports, and displays all calculations as percentages. Turn on ProfilerCount if you want the option of using the Calculation dropdown to view data by the number of responses (Counts) as well as by percentages.

Note: Note that turning on ProfilerCount for any segment group makes the Calculation dropdown available in Profiler reports. Therefore, if any individual segment group is available to all roles, and the ProfilerCount property is on for that segment group, every user would see the Calculation dropdown in Profiler reports.

OrFilter
Note: Do not use this property, which has been deprecated.
Make all users available for MemberRoles

If turned on, the roles available for the segment group will include all single users. You must save the survey group before a change to this property takes effect. If you have many user records, checking this property can slow the performance of the Profiler/Segment Groups screen.

MemberRoles

Choose the roles that have access to see the segment group in reports.

SelectedFields

Use the table to select the field you want associated with the segment group. In reports Experience Cloud displays the text entered for the Name property, regardless of the field you select.

TranslationExplanation

If you are translating reports, use this property to enter notes about the segment group for the translator. For more information about translating reports and surveys, see Localization.
