Adding translations to surveys

You can add a translation to your survey by using the Agile Research translation file.

Before proceeding with the following steps, make sure you have added all languages to your survey.

The process consists of the following steps:

Exporting the translation file

Note: It is recommended that you set up your survey completely in one language (including all branching, additional question options, page breaks, etc.). Afterwards, you can export the translation file.
  1. Open your survey.

  2. Select Settings > Languages.

  3. Click Export translation file. The file will automatically be saved to your default downloads folder. You can change this location in your personal browser settings.

Note: Your survey will be locked once you export a translation file. To unlock you survey, click Cancel translation, which appears as soon as you have exported a file. Keep in mind that you'll have to export a new translation file in this case to be sure you have the most recent version.

Adding translations

Open the exported Excel file. This file contains the title of your survey, the Survey ID, a column containing the Question IDs, a column containing the Response IDs, and a column per language containing all of the questions and answer options that you had already provided.

Add the translation to the corresponding cells.

Warning: Do not change the Survey ID or the values in the columns containing the Question and Response IDs (columns A and B). All HTML code present in the existing questions and answer options must be copied to the translations to ensure the correct layout of your questions and answers.

Importing the translation file

Warning: Before you start importing the Excel file, you must close this file on your computer.

To import the Excel file in the survey tool, complete the following steps.

  1. Open your survey, select Settings from the survey options menu, then select Languages (see steps 1-3 in Exporting the translation file above).
  2. Click Import translation file.

  3. Select the translation file that you have saved on your computer. Make sure this is a .xlsx file.

  4. Click Import translation file.

After the translations have been imported, you can still make changes to your survey using the Edit page. You can switch between languages using the Language dropdown in the top right corner of the page.
