Maintenance Mode in System Management
Overview
Maintenance Mode is a condition where all the components contained in a core instance are turned off. The instance can still receive a start command, but otherwise it is not available. Set a Core Instance to Maintenance Mode during a planned shutdown for maintenance, or to restart the instance.
What's the difference between Maintenance and Backup mode?
In Maintenance mode, all components are stopped and the instance is not able to take over the Core functionality. However, in Backup mode, the instance is ready to become the Core instance at any time.
For more information on the various Core instance modes, see System Management Core Instance.
To stop certain components instead of stopping the entire instance, see Starting, Stopping, and Restarting Components.
Entering Maintenance Mode

Exiting Maintenance Mode

Click the Start button.
Click Yes to continue, or click Cancel to cancel the process.
Maintenance Mode in a High Availability Environment
If you need to perform a restart or maintenance on the Primary Core instance, and you want to avoid a failover, perform the following steps in the order listed:
- Place Backup core in Maintenance mode
- Place Primary core in Maintenance mode
- Perform your desired maintenance
- Start Primary core
- Start Backup core
A failover will occur if the Primary core enters Maintenance mode first while the Backup core is not in Maintenance mode. For more details on failover, see Failover in System Management.
