Hybrid Heatmap

Hybrid heatmaps combine data from both dot heatmaps and attribution heatmaps to offer a more complete view of user behavior.

The three types of hybrid heatmaps are Click (visualizing user clicks), Touch (touches on touch-enabled devices), and Hover (how often a user hovers over a part of the page).
Note: If you select Device Type > Desktop when applying a segment to the heatmap, you will only be able to select Click/Touch and Hover hybrid heatmaps.
You can select to ignore attribution interactions using the respective Ignore button when hovering over an element, which will re-draw the heatmap excluding these interactions. While you can do likewise for dot clicks and hovers using boundary mode.

Scrolling down to the bottom reveals the key for each heatmap, as well as the usual attribution table that gives the breakdown on link engagement.

Creating a hybrid heatmap

In Analyze Heatmaps, go to Heatmap type > Hybrid.Hybrid heatmap type options

The following options are available:

Select the interaction type to be visualized:
Note: The options available depend on the device type filter applied to the heatmap.
  • Click — On-screen clicks from a desktop device
  • Touch — On-screen touches from a mobile device
  • Hover — On-screen hovering with a cursor from a desktop device
KeySelect Show gradient to display a gradient representing the number of interactions below the heatmap.Heatmap gradient
Display by

Select how to display the number of times each user-interface (UI) element was interacted with, depending on the interaction type selected in Data:

  • Rank — Displays a ranking, with 1 representing the most-interacted UI element.
  • Count/Value — Displays the total number of times the UI element was interacted with.
  • Contribution % — Displays the number of times each UI element was interacted with as a percentage of whole.
Theme

Click Background color to select a heatmap background color.

Select one of the following options to determine how the attribution color is displayed:

  • Attribution color — The transparency of a highlight reflects the level of interaction with more transparency meaning fewer interactions. Click the color box to change the attribution color.
  • Use multi-color — The closer to blue a piece of content, the less clicks it has received, and the closer to red, the more it has received.
Dot intensity and Dot opacityThe former setting allowing you to focus on the most highly clicked or hovered areas of a page when there are a large number of clicks or hovers spread across the page.

Viewing session replays of clicks and hovers

For attributed clicks and hovers, you can see all of the session replays of users who click or hover on a particular element of the page by hovering over the number by the element that you are interested in and clicking theShow visitors button.

This will show you a list of all of the sessions that clicked on the relevant piece of content, and you can click the Session replay (play) button next to a relevant session to see the session replay for that visitor.
