Introduction to the MXO Tag

The MXO Tag enables your website to work with MXO . Before you can release your changes to a site, add the MXO Tag to the header of each page on your website that you want to optimize.

You can preview and test your engagement configurations without adding the MXO Tag. The MXO Tag is only necessary if you are going to release your engagement configurations to the site, making them "live."

You can add the MXO Tag to each page of your website manually or you can use a shared theme or template within your existing content management or site management system, avoiding the custom tagging associated with many web analytics implementations.

Note:

The MXO Tag is specific to a single Space. Do not copy and paste or reuse the MXO Tag between spaces.## Customize and Extend the MXO Tag

You can customize and extend the MXO Tag in two ways. You can either:

  • Use the Customize your MXO Tag functionality available in the main MXO UI to implement site-wide changes to the MXO Tag operation. For example, changing the default optimization timeout or passing in additional data, when available.
  • Use the available JavaScript methods from MXO within your existing page logic to programmatically trigger calls to MXO for the current customer. For example, in situations where the default MXO Tag does not have access to all the customer context or data. You can either call the methods from the JavaScript on the web page or from your JavaScript framework.

Note:

Only users with the Admin Role can customize the MXO Tag.
